UBL - UL Bohs vs Shannon
- Published on 09 March 2015
Our seniors played Shannon RFC in Thomond Park, last night, but unfortunately, failed to get any points from the match.
Playing with a strong breeze in the first half, we started very well. We enjoyed nearly all the possession in the first quarter, and in the 8th minute, David Johnston crossed for a try, after Mossie Lawler and Finbar Aherne handled. We continued to control matters, but gradually Shannon eased into the game. They scored three tries in 10minutes, and converted twice, to leave the score 19-7, approaching half time. Adrian Enright, who had come on for the injured Shane Airey, was at the end of lovely move, touched down, and David Johnston converted. Half time score was 14-19 to Shannon.
The second half was a very physical affair, and both sides had to defend for long periods. Shannon eventually broke through our defence, and Richie Mullane scored a try in the 61st min. They added the extra points, and the score was 14-26. Try as we did , we just could'nt bridge the gap.
Eoin Sweeney was injured during the second half, and was taken to hospital. We wish him a speedy recovery.
UBL- Garryowen vs UL Bohs

We suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Garryowen FC in Dooradoyle last night.
Playing against a strong breeze in the first half, we competed very well, and had it not been for a few penalty misses, we could have been very close to Garryowen at half time.
Garryowen opened the scoring with a penalty in the 7th min. We had a good spell, but could'nt get on the scoreboard. In the 21st minute, Garryowen finally scored their first try, but conversion was missed. Jamie Gavin added another penalty in the 32nd min., to extend the lead to 11-0. As half time approached, and playing against the elements, an eleven point deficit was mot too bad, but in the 4th min of injury time Garryowen crossed for another try. Half time score 18-0.
Tries by "light blues" in the 52nd and 55th ended the game as far as the result was concerned, but we got our first points on the scoreboard with a try by Ian Condell in the 59 the min., and Shane Airey converted. Garryowen scored their fifth try on 70 mins, and Tim Rafferty completed the scoring with a try, and this was converted by Shane Airey. Final score 37-14.
Garryowen deserved their win, but the scoreline flatters them. As always, we gave 100 percent, and battled to the end.
Next up is Shannon RFC, next weekend.
