   DOLPHIN 27 UL BOHEMIANS 9,

   ULSTER BANK LEAGUE Div.1 A.

     Venue:  Musgrave Park, Cork.

    Date: Sat.3rd March 2013.

We travelled to Cork to play Dolphin RFC in hope that we could win and  kick start the rest of the season, and stay ahead of our neighbours Shannon. It proved to be a dissapointing afternoon on both counts.

Playing into a slight breeze in the first half, we fell behind to a 2nd minute penalty by Barry Keeshan, who was virtually unerring for the afternoon.

We had an opportunity to level the scores in the 4th minute, but the kick went wide. We continued to press forward, and enjoyed a good deal of possession, but were unable to make any breakthrough, against the Dolphin defence. Their scrum and lineout was very solid, and in the18th minute we missed a drop goal attempt. From the drop off, they surged upfield and were awarded a penalty in the 20th minute, which was converted. Score 0-6.

Dolphin began to play a more expansive game and scored a good try in the 23rd min. We defended well for a period, but it seemed that anytime we got a turnover, we knocked-on or took the wrong option. Another penalty in the 31st min saw Dolphin increase their lead to 0-14.

We again attacked the Dolphin line and we were awarded a penalty which JJ Hanrahan converted. With the hope of narrowing the lead even further, before halftime, we leaked another try in the 40th min to leave the score 3-21 at the break. A dissapointing half for us, where it seemed that everytime Dolphin got into our half, they scored.

The 2nd half started well for us, and continued pressure earned us 2 penalties in the 45th and 53rd mins. Ben Martin kicked both, and the score was 9-21. Jack oDonoghue and Brian Walsh came on at this stage, and there was a glimmer of hope that we might further reduce the lead, but were unable to maintain the pressure.

A penalty and a drop goal within 2 min for Dolphin, increased the lead to 9-24, which, try as we did, were not able to reduce the lead. There were some encouraging displays from Mark Abraham, John Sutton and Conor Kindregan, and when Jack and Brian came on, they were always busy.

Dolphin got another penalty in the 77th min to complete the scoring at 9-27.

Not a great day for us, but we've got to carry on, and reduce our handling errors, and be more efficient with the ball in hand.
